Read coverage by what it actually provides
A product warranty and a workmanship warranty address different problems. Understand the issuer, covered work and remedy before treating the word warranty as a single promise.

Two kinds of roofing coverage
Actual terms come from the party offering coverage.
| Coverage | What it generally addresses | Terms that matter |
|---|---|---|
| Product or manufacturer coverage | Specified defects in the roofing product. | Eligible product, installation, exclusions, time basis and remedy. |
| Workmanship coverage | Specified installation work by the contractor. | Covered work, issuer, exclusions, remedy and any maintenance or transfer conditions. |
What changes a roofing warranty
The label alone does not tell you how a problem would be handled.
- Installation eligibility
A product may require specified components, details or an eligible installer for particular coverage.
- Exclusions and maintenance
Storm damage, movement, drainage, unrelated trade work or lack of required care can be treated differently by the agreement.
- Remedy and responsibility
Coverage can provide material, labor or another stated remedy. The issuer's written terms determine what is included and who handles a claim.
Warranty and insurance are separate
The cause of the problem matters.
A product or installation issue
A relevant product or contractor agreement may address a covered defect under its terms.
An insured loss
Storm or other covered damage is handled under the property insurance policy. It does not become a product warranty claim simply because the roof is newer.
Roof Warranty FAQs
Does a new roof automatically have one standard warranty?
No. Coverage varies by product and contractor agreement. Product and workmanship terms can differ.
Does an impact rating guarantee storm coverage?
No. A test rating measures defined performance. Warranty and insurance coverage are separate agreements.
